Heyy all!!

As some of you allready know, we have been playing with Teamspeak 3 for a while,..
we wanted to find out if it is more reliable, functional and if there is any major differance..

well, there is!

The sound quality is amazingly good, it's allmost like talking Face to Face to somebody!
Really! ..
we have some channels setup @ CELT (mono) 48Khz, it sounds like a dream.

There's allso a couple other very nice features..

there's a way to share files with eachoter,.
if for instance we decided to put all game mods on the server, you would be able to download em straight to your PC Via/using Teamspeak 3!

Upgraded and extended rights and permission system..
(for admins this is like reading the newest issue of Playboy on a sunday night!)

Etc..

ANYHOW!

I would want to ask you lot, friends, partners in crime, Fellow playboy ehh, IGN readers and offcource great bunch of people to test it with us..

i hear your question; Are we gunna switch to TS3?
well, that is up to you! (yes, you!)
if everybody wants to, yes . we could switch right over..
but for now it is only a "introduction" you can call it a testdrive.

2nd question; What, How, Where!? :
Very simple, like a walk in the park!

First you go here> Teamspeak 3 Download Page

Here you can select the version you want;
so if your running a 32 bit version of Windows, you download the "Client 32 bit"
if your running a 64 bit version of Windows youle have to download the "client 64 bit"

3rd question; "How do i know what version im running?!"
Very simple, go to "START" > Right mouse click "computer" > hit "properties" and it should be stated somewhere like this>

Next. when you have downloaded it to your computer.
double click the installer, install it somewhere (far away from you p*rn collection)

Next. Open up teamspeak 3!
Click the "Connections" Tab in the upper left corner

Hit Connect.

and this window will pop-up.
put in the EXACT Info that you see in this screenshot!

(No Password!)
Hit Connect.

Boom, your done!

Just the quality of the sound is a big +.

Beleiving what Laidback said, with all the
testings already made, I wonder why we
don't use the darn thing yet ?!

In my mind, it is already pvoven to be better
for the clan.

Why waiting then ?

TS3 does have some nifty new functions and in many ways is an improvement over the existing TS2.

My 2 cents... (please feel free to agress or disagree)

TS3 is still in beta mode.
Whilst TS3 is a improved product, it is also now competing with a vast number of new generation voice over IP products being released.

One competing product is Shockvoice which even outperforms TS3 in its bandwidth usage (less use) and same if not better quality.

Slecting /Choosing a new replacement should I feel be based on a number of key points.

1. Is it stable for all players
2. Is it easy to use for all players
3. Does it offer improved functionality
4. Is there an improvement on the programs resource usage for your PC
5. How does pricing compare for Server Hosting

And most importantl of all...

6. Has anyone taken the time to discuss the possibility of replacement with our current TS2 benefactor GuigaCLT?

I would most certainly hope that before any change / migration or update, that ALL fellow Gaksters would send a note of appreciation to GuigaCLT for his committment and financial ongoing sponsorship to date (I know I appreciate it ).

I mention the above only because too often I have witnessed instances where those who have chipped in to go the extra mile in helping GAK become a special place are all too quickly forgotten or overlooked in the race to get the new toy or latest gizmo.

Lastly, befor jumping into the minefield of 'change', perhaps it would be wise if the change were managed (if & when it happens) so that we can ensure the following:

1. Testing of the replacement products has been done to an acceptable level.

2. A notice is sent to GuigaCLT to thank him on behalf of all members

3. A plan is created on how, where and when it will be installed

4. Notices are communicated to ALL members of the change at least 2 weeks in advance, 7 days and 24 hours to minimise the chance of some members not being made aware.

5. A user guide (perhaps more elaborate) is prepared and sent to all members to help with installing on different PC plaforms or alternatively, one of the users skilled in the new plastform offers to put asside some designated time to be online to help new users.

Ok.. in short, I can't see any problems with changing our VOIP communications tool but would like to see it managed properely instead of our all too oten knee jerk reaction.

it will be up to the administration to decidewhich one will be best

One note:

I already checked with our provider and they provide hosting for TS3 Beta, Ventrilo and Mumble without any additional costs or switching fees.

But they don't offer hosting services for ShockVoice and we would have to find another hosting company with the same competitive prices and reliability as the current provider.

Once you figure out what GAK wants to do let me know and I'll make the change.

Keep in Mind, ShockVoice, just like TS3 is also still only in Beta at this time, and no dedicated Mac OS clients either, so for users like Laidback, they MIGHT have issues with connecting like when I had set up GSC back in August/September last year, before the current TS2 server was setup. Can't remember if he said he got that worked around, but I know it was one of the reasons he couldn't use it.

If using ShockVoice, would have to have some people test and see if it runs in Bootcamp or Parallels or some other Virtualization environment.

Currently only Windows and Linux, Client and server versions.

It also REQUIRES, .NET or Mono (Open Source .NET Implementation on non Windows OS's) to Run.

Might be more of a hassle to set up as of right now, depending on the server Environment and some end users OS's.

As to TS3 (same goes with ShockVoice) they're fine for testing, but before switching over to one or the other or whatever, people are best off just waiting for the "Gold" or official release versions rather than switching entirely to a Beta Version, if there are frequent updates etc, it means more constant updating of the Voice chat server.

Best off just using TS2 now for main server and wait for the Release versions of TS3 or ShockVoice until that happens, in the meantime, small scale testing is perfectly fine, but no reason to FULLY switch over to a beta release product right now.

With so many choices out there...

TS2, TS3, Ventrilo, GSC, ShockVoice, Mumble, etc

some in full release flavor, others still in Beta, better off just waiting to switch over to one of the Beta's after they have been fully released, like Guesli said.

in the meantime though small scale testing should be fine, as has been done with TS3 so far.

Currently though, the one or two times I've been in TS3, its pretty good so far, sound quality it ok, though does sound like we're all talking from some hidden caves somewhere, bit of a echo effect sometimes, but guessing thats due to the lower audio bit rates and settings for the test server.

haven't tried any of the whiz bang features of TS3 yet, but there's still time for that.

Once TS3 goes Full release, My Servers host will be supporting it and I'll be having a small 20 person TS3 server setup since its no extra cost to me and free with my servers current package.

But, I'll Agree With Deadmed on the Push To Talk Thing, That NEEDS to be a Feature of any future VoIP Client used.

Its one of the Features I've had setup in the GSC server for sometime now, with only the main lobby channel not required, But almost all other channels require PTT.

I, and I know I'm not the only one, can't stand when one person has VOX on (or worse, when 2 or more have VOX on) and 2 or more members are talking, only for that to feed back through the person With Vox, speakers, then right into their Mic and back over TS to everyone elses...

(or when we have to hear peoples heavy breathing or occasional Deep breath Slurping sounds over TS)

with at least 102 keys on the keyboard, and especially for JO players (not THAT many frequently used keys used for the game), theres no reason not to find a key near your games keys to use for PTT.

As for using TS3 I am all in. I have used it will some of the other members of the KLAN (Ranker, KLAN).

So for me the vote is to move into the new format.
